Talk to the newspaper South China Morning Post (SCMP)Professor Shi Yong, director of the big data lab of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who led this project, said: “The plan to build and develop AI ‘prosecutor’ robot is an effort to reduce the load. the workload of prosecutors, allowing them to focus on more complex cases.”

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the law enforcement system is not new.

However, compared with existing AI tools, the AI ”prosecutor” robot developed by Professor Shi’s team is the first robot to be involved in the decision-making process related to proceedings or indictments. finally thanks to the ability to analyze the case with up to 97% accuracy.

According to the research team, being able to make accurate accusations requires the robot to be able to evaluate and remove unimportant details without affecting valuable information in the case such as: A real prosecutor.

Robot “prosecutor” is “trained” by receiving information from more than 17,000 cases from 2015-2020.

To date, the robot can make indictments with high accuracy for eight types of crimes most commonly seen in Shanghai, including: credit card fraud, gambling ring operations, reckless driving, intentionally causing injury, obstructing law enforcement officers, stealing, cheating and disrupting public order.

Professor Shi said that similar to other AI devices, the AI ”prosecutor” robot could continue to improve its ability to bring charges after other “training” in the future.

“It is expected that the robot ‘prosecutor’ will be able to participate in more complex cases and make more indictments against a particular suspect,” said the professor optimistically.

However, the achievements of the AI ”prosecutor” robot development project still receive mixed opinions from the public.

The accuracy of 97% is very high from a technological point of view, but there is always the possibility of mistakes. So who will take responsibility if something goes wrong? Prosecutor, this robot or the algorithm designer?”, newspaper SCMP quoted a prosecutor in Guangzhou province, China, expressing concern.

In addition, newspaper The Korea Times He also said that the AI ”prosecutor” robot can make indictments based on previous experience, but it is difficult to predict the public’s reaction to complex cases in a constantly changing social environment such as: nowadays.
